Best Courchevel Activities

Ski Magic’s bucket list of fun things to do in Courchevel (and the Three Valleys) is a run-down of all the best activities and adventures to make your ski holiday the best ever!

It’s aimed at youngsters (and the young at heart) and includes loads of free things too. We start with 10 things to do in ski/board boots, then follow up with some activities away from the pistes…

Top ten things to do on your skiing & snowboarding holiday

Courchevel Family Park

1. Family Park FREE (Courchevel Valley or Three Valleys lift pass)

If you’re staying in Courchevel with children, you’ll probably spend quite a bit of time here. The skicross is not too tricky (even for nervous parents!) and it’s beautifully constructed with a good range of boxes and kickers – it’s fun just to watch. There are also igloos or castles to climb and play in.

Courchevel Indiens Piste

2. Western Ski Park FREE (Courchevel Valley or Three Valleys lift pass)

At the top of the Ariondaz gondola in Courchevel Moriond is a Wild West themed beginners’ area with special magic carpets and wide, gentle slopes. Within this enclosed area you’ll find the ‘Indiens’ tipi. A great place for a break from skiing, you can try on headdresses or be face-painted, toast a marshmallow or warm up with a tea or vin chaud, payment is by donation.

3. Big Air Bag

Part of the Courchevel Family Park, the big air bag is located at the bottom of a large kicker. Sail down on skis/board (or choose the less scary inner tube option!) and try your best tricks, landing safely in a huge wobbly cushion of air to the rapturous applause of impressed onlookers.

Val Thorens Zip Wire4. Zip Wire, Val Thorens

Those with a nervous disposition look away now… Fly down the World’s Highest Zip Wire: 100kmph from 3230m altitude in just 2 mad minutes! It’s not cheap but for adventurous over-8s this is an experience not-to-be-missed! Minimum weight = 40kg.

5. Build a snowman FREE!

A trip to one of the snowiest places on earth simply wouldn’t be complete without building a snowman! There’s enough snow to make a family of humans, a pack of polar bears, a colony of penguins or even an entire safari park…. Time to get creative!

Paraglider Courchevel

6. Paragliding around the peaks

An unexpectedly relaxing experience, tandem paragliding is a truly incredible way to see the mountains and feels very safe in the harness of an experienced pilot. Head up to Le Loze above La Tania and ski off the mountain, flying over the forest to land in Le Praz. Email sales@skimagic.co.uk if you’d like more information.

7. Fun slopes, Meribel FREE (with 3 Valleys lift pass)

Aimed at younger skiers, the yeti park has a mini dual slalom, tunnels with weird noises, igloos, a mini zip wire, horns to blow and bells to whack! There’s also the Piste des Inuits with a slide and igloos.

8. Go on a Ski Safari FREE (with 3 Valleys lift pass)

Head down the ‘Piste des Animaux’ near the Altiport in Méribel, which has life-sized animal sculptures hidden in the woods; spot them as you ski down! There are also dragons to be found on the Pic Bleu piste leading down from La Tania towards the Méribel Altiport.

9. Moriond Racing Toboggan run

The new 3km toboggan track in Courchevel Moriond (1650) is awesome fun and great for a treat. It’s open from 11am to 4.30pm every day, with two floodlit sessions from 5pm-7.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The price includes the sledge and a helmet, which you collect from the top of the run. Children under 1.4 metres tall can go with an adult and are therefore free.

Courchevel Aventure

10. Courchevel Aventure

This area of Courchevel 1850 is dedicated to thrills and spills on the snow. Try driving a ‘fatbike’, a snowmobile or even a piste-basher, or opt for a ‘multiglisse’ and slide around on all manner of funny things: ‘airboards’, ‘trotiskis’ (a kind of scooter), and a ‘snakeglisse’ where you make a long caterpillar of sliding people! Email sales@skimagic.co.uk if you’d like more information.

And 10 More Cool things to do Off The Slopes…

Courchevel Aquamotion

11. Aquamotion

This place is great for REALLY wearing the kids out before bedtime, or on days when you don’t like the look of the weather. There’s a nice warm pool, an outside zone with bubbles and a lazy river, and fun slides, as well as a large splashy area for little ones.

Climbing in Courchevel

12. Climbing

There are two options for your little monkeys – Aquamotion has a great climbing centre with a large kids area that has special ‘self-belay’ ropes. Alternatively there’s a wall and ‘parcours’ with tarzan swing in Le Forum in Courchevel 1850, open after the lifts shut.

13. Snowshoeing

Put on your snowboots, hire some snowshoes and head off into the woods to follow the tracks of the deer, hares, foxes and wild boars… The unspoilt white snow and peace and quiet away from the slopes make for a magical trip through a winter wonderland. Guided tours are also available. Email sales@skimagic.co.uk if you’d like more information.

davidandre-enfants-7414. Ice skating

Le Forum in Courchevel 1850 has an ice rink which opens every afternoon. Even children as young as 3 are able to join in, and in fact thoroughly enjoy being pushed around on the little trolleys (which also act as a zimmer frame for wobbly parents!)

Courchevel Toboggan run15. FREE sledge run

Wrap up safe and warm (boots, salopettes & helmets!) and head to Courchevel Village on the bus. Hire a sledge, take the gondola up (it’s free after 16.45) and you’ll pop out in La Croisette in 1850. Leave the building (by the lower stairs) and cross the road to the Tovets chairlift. You’ll find a toboggan run which twists and turns through the trees to bring you back to Courchevel Village. Take the gondola back up and repeat!

16. Bumboarding FREE

For a gentler introduction to sledging, there’s a ‘bumboarding’ area at the foot of La Tania’s slopes, which fills up with bumboarders after the lifts shut. Embrace your inner child and join them! (Or watch from the Chrome Bar with a vin chaud…)

17. Eat a Fondue

You shouldn’t really leave the mountains without indulging in one of our cheesy local dishes… Dip cubes of baguette into a fondue (if you lose your bread, tradition dictates that you must run around the table naked…), scrape toasty raclette cheese onto boiled spuds and devour with salamis and hams, or try a ‘pierrade’ – you cook your own strips of meat on a mini BBQ at your table, then dip into the variety of sauces. Most local restaurants serve these specialties.

Courchevel Soft Play centre

18. Soft Play FREE

Ideal for children up to around 7 years, there’s a free indoor play centre under the Croisette building in 1850. Hop off the bus at the end of the line in 1850, turn right and you’ll find it on your left. It’s not enormous but will keep younger children entertained for at least an hour. There’s a WC inside but not a cafe and it’s unstaffed. It’s quiet during ski school times but can get busier with older children at lunch time and once the lifts shut. To make a full day out, why not combine with a trip up on the bubble (ideal for encouraging smaller children to nod off!) and a hot chocolate or meet with skiers for lunch.

Fireworks Courchevel

19. Fireworks and torchlit descents FREE

During February there are various firework displays (usually on Thursdays) as part of an International Pyrotechnic Festival. Enjoy the stunning displays along with a free hot chocolate or vin chaud.
